Jovellar town celebrates its Quipia Festival today until August 29. Held annually in time for its fiesta celebration, the festival features various events highlighted by a street presentation.
Quipia is the old name of the town and the river that provides water for agriculture, the area’s main industry. Quipia river runs through the town and the river leads all the way to Donsol, Sorsogon. The town produces rice, copra, abaca and corn.
Main access to the town is via Guinobatan. Jeepneys ply the 16 kilometer distance from Guinobatan to Jovellar daily with the first trip from Guinobatan leaving as early as 5 AM and the last trip to Jovellar usually at around 5 PM.
Tourist activities in the area may include a trip to the river just behind the local school or a trip to Pariaan pool. Once at the town center, you can find a statue of the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, and the town church directly in front of it.
