Manila: Top 3 in the Worst City for Driving in the World!

Written By kusina101 on Thursday, April 19, 2012 | Thursday, April 19, 2012

The Philippine capital of Manila has been tagged by the "CNNGo" travel and lifestyle website as the world's third-worst city for driving.

The website cited Filipinos' concern about traffic congestion as their number one problem, followed by air pollution, garbage collection, flood control and the need for security.

"So, Filipinos care more about getting to work on time than they do about respiratory ailments, mounting trash heaps, drowning or being assaulted?" it said.

"Among other things, the funds were meant to 'promote the use of non-motorized transport,'" it added.

"A campaign asking locals to 'Please stop driving,' however, wasn't necessarily the best approach to traffic management."

The website believes that authorities may be doing something to solve the traffic mess in the city.

"Redeeming quality: You're in a country in which smooth-flowing traffic is apparently of utmost importance to residents. So, you gotta figure somebody, somewhere is working on the problem. Right?"

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officials expressed doubts the report.

"Siguro hindi naman totoo iyan. Ano bang basehan nila? Convenience? Travel time?" said MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino.

"Ang ginagawa natin sinasama na rin natin ang mga residente para sila rin ang gumawa ng paraan against traffic," he added.

He said that while some Filipino drivers need more discipline on the road, the country is not being left behind with regard to the state of roads and vehicles.

It's not fun to promote the jeepneys when in fact they are the cholesterol of the Philippine roads, it made us Filipinos drive like snakes and travel a 5 kilometer road for 1 hour when the same length of road in Hongkong, Japan, Korea which has a higher volume of people per area travel the same length for just 15 minutes.

Beijing in China topped the list as the world's third-worst place for driving, followed by New Delhi in India.

The other cities in the world on the list are Mexico City in Mexico, Johannesburg in South Africa, Lagos in Nigeria, São Paolo in Brazil, Moscow in Russia, Toronto in Canada and Monaco.

It's not fun to see that most streets in Manila doesn't have a sidewalk cars, jeeps, tricycles, motorcycles, pushcarts, pedestrians, beggars, street vendors literally share the road on a stupid daily basis.

We need a leader who can honestly say, our country sucks! Our roads are all messed up. We do not even have sidewalks where people can walk on.

Boracay was wonderful but now it sucks. It now looks like Galera. What was once a wide beachfront of a 40-50 meters easement from the shoreline is now just 15-25 meters. They even allowed a famous sports politician to pour cement over corals for his resort against environmental rules and no one goes to prison, it sucks.

We should stop saying that we are the best when we aren't. What we should do is strive to be the best, when we achieve it, that is the only time we claim we are the best.

But until then, we tell ourselves any everyone in the world, We the Philippines will strive to be the best in the world, if you think anything sucks in this country, please, let us know. Fell free to say it, we will appreciate it.

We should not hate people who speaks the truth. otherwise, we won't be the best.
