Season 11. Sanchez is now in AI's Top 5 and will be part of the show's Disney tour.
Other finalists include Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips, Skylar Laine and Hollie Cavanagh. While singer Elise Testone was eliminated.
Sanchez moves closer to being the best contestant with Filipino blood to make it on the show after Jasmine Trias, who came in third in "American Idol’s" third season.
Sanchez on Wednesday evening (Thursday morning in Manila) wowed judges with her two performances:
- "Bohemian Rhapsody" by the band Queen, and
- "Dance with my Father" by the late singer Luther Vandross.
After Sanchez sang "Dance with my Father," judge Randy Jackson said: “You know what’s wrong with it? Absolutely nothing.”
“American Idol” judges gave high praises to the 16-year-old singer for her second song choice.
Jennifer Lopez thought Sanchez's rendition of “Dance With My Father” may be the most beautiful she's ever heard.
“We’ve heard a lot of people sing that song. You can imagine over
the past two years, it’s such a beautiful song... but the tenderness,
the feeling, your vocal ability. The feeling for me more than anything
is what makes me say that it’s the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard
it,” she said.
Another judge, Steven Tyler added: “I don't think you could sing a song bad.”
Sanchez dedicated the song to her father, who is a soldier. Her father will be deployed to Singapore soon.
