The month of October of every year is the National Children’s Month (NCM) pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 267, series of 1993 to emphasize the importance of the role of the child within the Filipino family and in nation building. For this year, the 21st National Children’s Month celebration focuses on poverty.
The theme “Kahirapan Wakasan, Karapatan ng Bata Ipaglaban” highlights that poverty reduction starts with children and that education is the most promising intervention that can make a difference in the life of every child and his/her family.
It is significant to note that the theme for the children’s month is aligned with DSWD’s efforts in investing in children’s future through the government’s flagship poverty reduction program, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino or the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT). Breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty is one way to uphold the rights of children.
The National Children’s Month will be highlighted with various activities in partnership with other government and non-government organizations. Some of these are Liturgical Celebration, quiz bee on Child Rights, cheer dance, awarding of CWC On-The-Spot Poster Making and Clay Modeling Sculpture and Song Composition contests, Seminar for Parents on Child’s Protection, Forum on “Kaalaman sa Batas Para sa Bata” focus on Anti-Child Pornography Act, Medical and Dental Mission, Policy Forum on Poverty, Children’s Festival, National Children’s Congress, Flash Mob, Exhibits, etc.
